1. Effigy Mounds

This national monument's beautiful trails not only provide some of the best views in Harpers Ferry but also an up-close look at the Effigy Mounds and Iowa's Indian history. These prehistoric burial and ceremonial mounds date from 500 B.C. to 1300 A.D. and are located on 2,500 acres of forested land along the Mississippi River. Gaze at the mounds at the shapes they form and learn even more history with walk through the visitor center.
