Show Contact Information +
Built in 1919 as a dairy equipment manufacturing plant, the 104,000 square foot Cherry Building is the only authentic loft-style workspace in Cedar Rapids. It is located at the heart of the Czech Village New Bohemia Main Street District near downtown Cedar Rapids. This historic building is home to 40 tenants including the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio, Illuminations new age center, numerous working artist studios, photographers, a Tibetan singing bowl meditation center, Friends of the Library used book center, a recording studio and several entrepreneurial businesses. The building features a brick exterior and solid oak flooring throughout. Inside you will find 12 foot ceilings with exposed joistwork. Full length factory style windows are found around the building on the first floor, and 30 foot skylights adorn the third floor. The loading dock and large freight elevator are handy to tenants of many different vocations. Grant Wood, the Cedar Rapids artist who painted American Gothic, also painted a series of seven paintings of the Cherry Building. Currently featuring spaces from ranging from 225 SF to over 5,000 SF, The Cherry Building continues to be a space suitable for a variety of uses. After decades of use, the building continues to be staple of the Main Street District economic development.
