One of two museums on the iconic University of Iowa Pentacrest, the Old Capitol Museum was the first State Capitol of Iowa and became a public museum in 1976.
Located at the heart of Iowa City, Old Capitol is a center of culture and civic discourse for the State of Iowa, through public outreach initiatives, educational programming, exhibitions, and academic scholarship. Guests are invited to explore the grand spaces and Iowa history on self-guided tours or with a tour guide when arranged. Always free admission.
