Mission Statement: Preserving the Past, Documenting the Present, Enriching the Future Our museum was the first school built in the Algona City limits in 1867 Purchased by the Grand Army of the Republic in 1887 and moved to its current location, where it served as the G.A.R. Hall for Civil War Veterans In 2014, the museum was added to the National Register of Historic Places as a G.A.R. Memorial Hall Our museum is one of only fourteen two-story wooden schoolhouses left in Iowa and the only one that is still in use.
