Located on the northeast edge of Slater at the intersection of 510th Avenue (R-38) and Linn Street, the Slater Trailhead marks the western end of the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail and connects directly to the iconic High Trestle Trail. Water and bathroom facilities available. Native prairie remnants, such as Lee Prairie, as well as a variety of other native wild flowers such as blue flag iris and prairie phlox are also showcased along this trail, resulting in a beautiful and flower-filled path.
Slater offers numerous food and drink establishments, making this a great stop for a refuel or to celebrate a long day on the trail.
*The recently paved Heart of Iowa Nature Trail stretches 21 miles from Slater, where it meets the famous High Trestle Trail, eastward 21 miles through Huxley, Cambridge, Maxwell and into Collins on the east. Enjoy expansive nature views, prairie remnants, woodlands and Iowa farmland in "The Heart of Iowa."
