The Harlan-Lincoln House in Mount Pleasant is Abraham Lincoln's legacy in Iowa. It was the home of U.S. Senator James Harlan whose daughter Mary married Lincoln's son Robert. The Robert Todd Lincolns brought their three children to spend summers at this home. The museum tells the story of the Lincolns and Harlans in this small Iowa town through artifacts, including a piece of the coat Abraham Lincoln was wearing when he was assassinated, a mourning veil which belonged to Mary Todd Lincoln, and other furnishings, belongings, and artwork related to the Harlan and Lincoln families. The House is open Wednesdays and Saturdays 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. from March through October. Special appointments may be arranged through the website https://www.harlanlincoln.org.
