Guye Woods County Park is one of Madison County’s most rugged and secluded natural areas, located about six miles northeast of Winterset along the North River. This 93-acre wilderness park offers a true back-to-nature experience where visitors can explore dense timber, steep hillsides, and scenic river landscapes. A highlight of the park is a 100-foot cable suspension bridge that spans the North River and serves as the only access point into the wooded interior, creating a memorable start to any visit. Beyond the bridge, river bottom timber rises into upland hardwood forest, including the highest elevation point in Madison County. Guye Woods is managed as a wilderness area, with no groomed trails, encouraging visitors to explore using natural game paths.
