Located just north of Zearing in northeast Story County, Dakins Lake includes remnant and restored prairie, successional timber, and 2 miles of trails. With 20 acres of open water in two lakes, Dakins offers anglers the opportunity to catch bass, bluegill and channel catfish. The newly expanded 103-acre park offers hiking, camping, fishing, picnicking, bird watching, geocaching, and a natural playscape. Dakins Lake features two campgrounds. The main campground has 12 full hook-up sites and 17 sites with electricity and water. The primitive campground has 8 electric sites and 2 for tents camping only. Reservations can be made at www.mycountyparks.com. There is a picnic shelter available for reservation (www.mycountyparks.com), and a shower house. Dakins includes remnant and restored prairie, successional timber, and 2 miles of hiking trails.
