Take in the beauty of the Mississippi River at this unique and tranquil getaway. The American House Inn is the oldest standing building in McGregor, IA. Built in 1854, by William H. Harding, it is McGregor's first Hotel. On the National Registry of Historic Places, it takes you back to the late 1800s but has modern amenities. A historic Stagecoach Stop, the main lobby of the hotel is where stagecoach tickets were purchased for horse-drawn carriages. It was also once a saloon, dental office, and for a period of time after the civil war, a house of "ill-repute".
