My name is Melody Zimmerman, and I love to capture rural life here in Iowa. Through rural Iowa landscapes, architecture, local gatherings, and everyday moments, I document the details that bring the story of the place forward. I am interested in the beauty found in ordinary spaces. In my portrait work, I photograph people in a way that honors their imperfect humanity. I am especially interested in photographing individuals who are devoted to their crafts and creative practices. Across these bodies of work, I am interested in preservation—not only of people and places, but of the intangible qualities that make them meaningful.
