Thayer

Thayer, located 8 miles east of Afton on Hwy 34, was surveyed in 1867 as a possible stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and platted in 1868.  By 1900, Thayer had grown to a population of almost 400.  Currently, Thayer has a population of around 49.

The Thayer area is home to the Mount Pisgah Monument, Thayer Lake which offers camping around a 10-acre spring-fed lake and 47-acre nature area, and Fish Fix Aquatic Pet Store.
