Located in Ridgeway, the Turkey River Cultural Center is home to one of the largest woodcarving collections in the world, featuring more than 6,000 intricate pieces gathered over decades by master carver Stanley “Slim” Maroushek. Visitors can explore an extraordinary range of carvings—from detailed miniature works to large-scale sculptures including totem poles, folk scenes, and the famous life-size “Hobo Camp” display. In addition to the museum, the center hosts traditional music jams, workshops, and community arts programming, making it a vibrant destination for creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage in Northeast Iowa.

Situated near the center of the Prairie Farmer Recreational Trail corridor connecting Calmar and Cresco, Ridgeway offers a great place to rest, grab a bite to eat, and experience the community’s small-town charm before continuing your journey along this scenic route. After exploring the trail, stop in at Fireman’s Inn, a local favorite known for its welcoming atmosphere and large specialty pizzas.

Cardinal Marsh, known for its exceptional birdwatching opportunities, waterfowl hunting and diverse wildlife habitat, is located just 10 minutes outside of Ridgeway. This expansive wetland area attracts a wide variety of migratory and resident birds throughout the year, making it a favorite destination for birders, photographers, hunters and nature enthusiasts looking to experience the beauty of Northeast Iowa’s natural landscapes. Mowed grass trails provide an opportunity to stroll the area.
