Maxwell City Park is must-stop, containing a dog park, 12-hole frisbee golf course, playground, horse shoes, electric hook ups an. It also hosts the Story County Freedom Rock, honoring local veterans through Ray "Bubba" Sorenson's inspiring artwork.
One mile southwest of town on the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail, stands the historic Calumus Creek Bridge. This concrete arch bridge, built in 1905, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the earliest remaining Luten arch bridge in Iowa and among the oldest in the country. Second Sundays May through September, Maxwell's Market in the Park hosts some of the best vendors in central Iowa. This event offers visitors up to 70 vendors showcasing baked goods, produce, handcrafted arts, sweet treats and more, live entertainment and fun for the whole family.
Early August brings Old Settlers Days, featuring carnival rides, sanctioned rodeo, food vendors, truck/tractor pulls, live music, parade and more.
