Fayette lies in the Volga River Valley surrounded by forested hills. Enjoy the Volga River State Recreation area, located three miles north of town. The area includes Frog Hollow Lake, a 138-acre lake with bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass and channel catfish. Sail boating and canoeing are very popular on this lake.

The Volga River that runs through this stretch provides a beautiful kayak and canoe trip, and holds smallmouth bass, rock bass and channel catfish. Visitors also enjoy hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing on the 22 miles of multi-use trails through the recreation area. Albany and Lakeview campgrounds offer over 85 sites for both equestrian and non-equestrian camping.

In Fayette, enjoy over four miles of paved and gravel trails connecting the town to Volga River State Recreation area. Other recreational activities in town include a disc golf course and the Big Country Golf and Country Club. Downtown also holds many tantalizing restaurant options such as the new Pavo Blue Coffee Shop & Gift Store, owned and operated by the Upper Iowa University, DT’s Pub and Shiners Bar and Grill.
