The Pioneer Craft Fair
Sunday, September 12, 2027
The Pioneer Craft Fair is an event that takes place annually on the second Sunday in September in Morrison, Iowa. It is hosted by Grundy County Conservation and the Historical Collections of Grundy County. On this day, the Grundy County Heritage Museum will be open, as well as the Morrison Schoolhouse, the Peck Log cabin, and the Colfax No. 3 Schoolhouse. Fireside stew and churned butter will be made in the Peck Log Cabin-a true pioneer treat! Local bands and musicians often come to share their skills and entertain the crowd. Visitors also get a chance to see the Buckskinners Camp: a little settlement of canvas tents and tipis, where historical reenactors show off their frontier goods and skills, all in the forest setting of the Blackhawk Creek Wildlife Area. Homemade treats and crafts can all be found at the farmer’s market, and affordable lunches are available at the Historical Collections food stand inside the Heritage Center building. Fun games for kids include the haystack treasure hunt, the hand pump duck races, and an event wide scavenger hunt for the chance to win a treat. Kids can also see both wild and domesticated animals, and can visit the touch room for a chance to pick up and handle pelts, bones, and other natural artifacts. This is a family-friendly event, and free for all to attend!
