February's Lights On Salon features public-facing artists and writers Kerry Howley and Rachel Yoder in conversation about channeling somatic instinct and the public eye. Lights On events are open conversations with multi-disciplinary thinkers. These events are free and open to the public. Light refreshments provided. Kerry Howley is a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow, staff writer at New York Magazine, and author of two critically acclaimed works of creative nonfiction, the most recent of which was named by the New York Times Book Review as one of the year’s “Ten Best Books.” She is a three-time National Magazine Award nominee and a 2023 finalist for the National Books Critics Circle Award. At New York, she has written feature stories on subjects as varied as the poetry of Jorie Graham, a rivalry in the field of paleontology, and the isolation of Brittany Spears. Her fiction and nonfiction have been published in The Paris Review, Harpers, Granta, and many other venues. Prior to joining the staff of New York, she was an assistant professor at the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program. Rachel Yoder is the author of Nightbitch (2021), named a best book of the year by Esquire and Vulture and recognized as a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Fiction. Her stories and essays have appeared in publications such as Harper’s, The New York Times, and The Paris Review. She is an assistant professor in the Cinematic Arts Department at the University of Iowa
