Intro to Punch Needle Rug Making

Learn the basics of punch needle rug hooking by creating your very own smiley face mug rug that is 4” in size. You will learn stitch size, how to space your rows, how to punch straight lines and curves, and how to clean up the front side of your rug and hemming techniques. All the tools you need will be available to borrow during class. This includes a 10×10 gripper strip frame, a frame cover and #10 Regular Oxford Punch Needle. Bring your short (embroidery size) sharp point scissors, if you have them. Punch needle rug hooking involves punching yarn down through the foundation cloth to create the loops on the underside of the frame. Learning this technique can allow you to create anything from a small trivet to a large rug.
