Trail runners will enjoy the prairie beauty of the Blood Run site along with the Martin Johnson Farmstead, Blood Run Creek and the Pitted Boulder with the backdrop of South Dakota and the Big Sioux River to the west. “It is truly a beautiful and historic site in Lyon County to view and enjoy for the event runners and walkers,” according to Friends of Blood Run president Steve Simons. “The history of the site dates back to the AD 1500 to 1700 time-frame when it was a bustling trading center for the tribal members of the Oneota culture. It is the largest known Oneota cultural site in the United States with estimates of 5,000 Oneota people living there during its busiest time.” Trail run/walk online registration may be completed at www.friendsofbloodrun.com. The cost is $20 and participants will receive a 2025 Blood Run Trail Run T-shirt and top finishers in three age classes receive medals. Trail run/walk check-in is at 7:30 a.m. at the Blood Run National Historic Landmark with the trail run/walk starting at 8:00 a.m.
