Vesterheim offers free museum admission and family activities on the second Saturday of every month. This month, enjoy a film screening and family crafts! 11:00 a.m.: Screen two original documentaries "Knit With Love" and "From Nesna With Love" with an introduction by Shari Lamke, President and General Manager of Pioneer PBS, Granite Falls, MN. With some help from Vesterheim staff, producer Dana Conroy traveled from Alabama to Norway to trace her family to understand some objects that she inherited. She learns why knitting was so important to her family and the rich history of felted wool boots. Get ready for Decorah’s Nordic Fest by making a Norwegian flag! The museum is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with the craft activities in the exhibit gallery from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Play the Emigrating to America Game, which will be set up in Heritage Park! This game leads you through a series of decisions as you pretend to immigrate to the U.S. from Norway. Find out who you are when you leave Norway and what happens along your travels to a new home! Emigrating to America is a collaborative project between Vesterheim and Norwegian partners. Vesterheim was pleased to contribute historic photographs and information and stories from collection pieces and provide assistance in developing, evaluating, and sharing the project. Special exhibits listed here. There’s always something new! This program is supported by a grant from McElroy Trust with additional gifts from The Depot Outlet and Black Hills.
