Latinx Immigrants of Iowa Presents: Day of the Dead in Iowa 2026

Latinx Immigrants of Iowa, in collaboration with the Des Moines Public Library, invites the entire community to its sixth annual Day of the Dead celebration, a family-friendly evening dedicated to preserving our traditions, celebrating our culture, and lovingly remembering those who are no longer with us.

The celebration takes place on November 2 because, according to Mexican tradition, this date is especially dedicated to honoring deceased adults. November 1 is traditionally dedicated to children who have passed away, while November 2 honors adults.

Day of the Dead does not celebrate death; it celebrates life, memories, and the legacy our loved ones left behind. As a central part of this celebration, we will have a traditional Day of the Dead ofrenda, created to respectfully and lovingly honor and remember our loved ones who have passed away.

Folkloric ballet performance
Catrina contest
Catrina exhibition
Photo and video opportunities with the Catrinas
Tamales
Pan de muerto
Hot chocolate
Cultural activities for the entire family
