Contemporary Classical Concert: "Iowan Sounds" (Rolling Hills Music Festival)

Discover music by regional composers of today at this special concert in collaboration with the Iowa Composers Forum! A program entirely of contemporary works, including a world premiere and multiple Iowa premieres. Performers are top classical musicians from central Iowa: - Jonathan Sturm, concertmaster of the Des Moines Symphony - Gregory Oakes, principal clarinet of the Des Moines Symphony & professor at Iowa State University - Kimberly Helton, flutist with the Des Moines Symphony, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Orchestra Iowa - Nicholas Roth, pianist and professor of music at Drake University Program begins at 7:30 with a reception + short Q&A with performers/composers to follow. -- Rolling Hills Music Festival is a celebration of homegrown classical music in the heart of Iowa. The inaugural season takes place August 6-9, 2026, with five events at five different venues across Ames.
