One of Winterset's most beloved landmarks is turning 100 on Friday, August 7, and Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Winterset City Park. Built in 1926 to honor the memory of two of Winterset’s original settlers, Caleb and Ruth Clark, the iconic limestone tower has become a treasured destination for generations of families, visitors, photographers, and history enthusiasts. To honor its remarkable legacy, the Friends of Winterset Parks & Recreation, in partnership with Winterset Parks & Recreation, have planned two days filled with activities celebrating the tower's past while creating new memories for future generations. Friday, August 7, celebrate Clark Tower's history and support its future with the purchase of an event ticket. Guests will enjoy a social hour, silent auction, dinner and an illuminated Clark Tower drive. Saturday, Aug. 8, The day begins with a 5K Trail Run and 1-Mile Kids Fun Run at 9 a.m. History talks exploring e the rich history of Winterset City Park and Clark Tower run from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 - 3 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Community-Wide Reunion Picnic in the Park will feature: • Live music • Food trucks • Lawn games and family activities • Inflatables • Bubbles and sidewalk chalk • Dunk tank • Caricature drawings • Opportunities to reconnect with friends, neighbors, and visitors Additional highlights include a Clark Family Descendants photo at the tower, and a ticketed Paint & Sip class led by local artist Christine Hilbert.
