The Charlie Korschgen 4th of July Kiddie Parade is a cherished annual event in Fort Madison, Iowa, celebrated for its rich history and community spirit. Established over a century ago, the parade is recognized as one of the oldest Fourth of July children's parades in the United States. The inaugural parade was initiated by Charlie Korschgen, a railroad worker, who began the tradition with nothing but a drum, walking through the streets of Fort Madison and inviting children to join him in the procession. Since then, the event has grown significantly, drawing participants and spectators from near and far.Typically held on July 4th, the parade begins at 10:00 a.m., starting at the intersection of 18th Street and Avenue G, and proceeding to the Moose Club located at 6th and Avenue G. Registration for participants opens at 8:30 a.m. at 18th & Avenue G, with forms available at local businesses such as Dodd Printing & Stationery. Following the parade, attendees are invited to the Moose Club for refreshments and the awarding of prizes. The 113th annual parade is scheduled for July 4, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. It's a delightful celebration that brings together community members of all ages, fostering a sense of tradition and unity in Fort Madison
