Head to Honey Creek Resort for a day of family fun in the sun. Their in-lake splash pad is a blash for kids and kids-at-heart. Grab a lunch on the patio of their resort restaurant, and end the afternoon with a stand-up paddleboarding adventure.

3. Lake Wapello State Park

Spend an entire day exploring Lake Wapello State Park. If you head north first, your route will wind you along part of the Historic Hills Scenic Byway, offering a feeling of true escape. Lake Wapello's 1930's limestone beach house, peaceful, boat-less lake and standy beaches make this a great and safe water spot for the kids. Be sure to stop by the bait shop and sign up to rent a paddleboat and grab a bomb pop.
