Owen Nature Center and extending all the way to the Mitchell Mill Dam and Interstate Park, this trail promises a wealth of captivating features and breathtaking views. As you traverse the Cedar River Greenbelt trails, you’ll be treated to magnificent vistas of the Cedar River from high peaks and low viewpoints. Along the way, you’ll discover thoughtfully crafted benches and a charming gazebo, all meticulously built by Boy Scouts. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the restored oak savanna and the specially installed fish habitat, complete with an American flag emerging from a rock during the summer months. These unique touches add to the trail’s allure, providing a glimpse into the area’s rich history and natural wonders. Conveniently located at multiple points along the trail, you’ll find four separate parking areas for easy access. Whether you choose to start at the trailhead, Mitchell County Trap Range, Lunds Wildlife Area, or near the Mitchell Mill Dam, ample parking makes getting to the trail a breeze. The Cedar River Greenbelt trails wind through various habitats, including native prairie, oak savanna, river bluffs, river bottomland, and river upland. This diverse landscape provides a captivating backdrop for horseback riders, bikers, hikers and runners alike.
