Spark! Places of Innovation Exhibition

Explore how small towns across America have solved challenges through creativity and innovation. “Spark! Places of Innovation,” a traveling Smithsonian exhibition, will be on display at Legacy Plaza, Building 20, in Newton from December 30, 2024, to January 30, 2025. This inspiring exhibit shares stories from over 30 rural communities that transformed neighborhoods, supported businesses, and celebrated local culture. Featuring photos, hands-on activities, videos, and artifacts, “Spark!” highlights four types of innovation—social, artistic, technological, and cultural. From public art projects in Pennsylvania to tech hubs in New Mexico, it celebrates the ingenuity of rural America. Newton was selected to host this exhibit through the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program. The City of Newton and the Historic Preservation Commission are excited to bring this free exhibit to the community and reflect on Newton’s innovative past and future. Exhibit Hours: Weekdays: 2–7 p.m. January 11 & 25: 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Visit Legacy Plaza, Building 20, using the Courtyard skywalk entrance.
