The Oneota Valley Community Orchestra (OVCO) will present a program of music from around the world titled Capriccio Espagnol on Sunday, February, 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. at the Decorah High School Auditorium. Award-winning OVCO Music Director Matthew Cody will conduct the orchestra in a program that will conclude with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Cappriccio espagnol. The great Russian composer used Spanish folk melodies in this brilliantly orchestrated composition. The concert opens with the Overture to Light Cavalry by the Viennese composer of operetta Franz von Suppé. The first half of the performance will also include English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams’s singularly beautiful work for string instruments, Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. Finland will also be represented on the program with Jean Sibelius’s Karelia Suite. The concert is free and open to the public. The orchestra is sponsored by the Marion E. Jerome Foundation and the Depot Outlet. Further support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
