2024 is beginning to be an eventful year for the City of Modale. Modale was founded in 1874 and will be celebrating their 150 Sesquicentennial birthday this year. On September 14, 2024, The Annual Modale Fun Day with the 150th Celebration will feature a parade beginning at 10:00 a.m., the history of Modale will be at the Historic Grand Lodge and Arts Center and will be open throughout the afternoon. There will be activities in the park, a Bocce tournament, food, and an obstacle course by the Modale Fire Department are just a few to mention. There will be raffle prizes galore. A Dedication of their New Honor Roll Square will begin at 11:00 a.m. downtown. This event requires a brief history of Modale that leads you back to 1944. A large wooden monument was erected to pay tribute to their local veterans. It stood for 22 years until it had to be demolished due to deterioration. After 58 years of being without a way of honoring our veterans, a committee of four Vietnam veterans, a business owner and a city council member started making plans to remedy this situation. The City of Modale approved a donation of a lot on the corner of Palmer and Main Street. This turned out to be the ideal place to erect this structure. It was big enough to display the 3 piece black granite monument and also include an inviting parklike atmosphere to begin revitalizing their community and attract tourism to the western side of Harrison County.
