2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The Betty Strong Encounter Center is honored to host Dr. Scott Culpepper’s presentation on “Elizabeth I in History and Memory.” Queen Elizabeth I ruled England at a time when religious conflict, inner turmoil, and rival European states threatened the stability of the island nation. She faced all the normal challenges of a sixteenth century monarch with the added burden of proving that a woman could rule effectively in a patriarchal world. She rose to that daunting challenge to the delight of her friends and the surprise of her enemies. This presentation will explore the life and legacy of Elizabeth I and see why this sixteenth century queen continues to fascinate. Culpepper holds a Ph.D. in Religion and Church/State Studies from Baylor University; a Master of Arts in History from Northwestern State University of Louisiana; a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in historical and theological studies from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Religious Education from Louisiana College.
