Founders’ Day adds World Food Festival Celebrate new flavors and cultures at the World Food Festival on the Saturday of Founders’ Day weekend in Algona. The Founders’ Day Committee is partnering with an emerging organization, the Latino Community Initiative, to offer this event during the community’s annual celebration. The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 8 on S. Dodge Street and music will begin at 5 p.m. The food festival will go until 7 p.m. or until the food is gone. The cost to attend is $5 per person. The intention of this new activity is to create an opportunity for people who were transplanted in the Algona area from various places to gather with others in the community for good food, music and building new connections. Hormel is donating pork for the event and a modest stipend will be provided for vendors to assist with food expenses. Pork butt, ribs, pork loin and ground pork will be available. Vendors are asked to provide 150 sample-sized servings of whatever food they make. Vendors must bring their own table and, if electricity is needed, a 25-foot extension cord. To register as a vendor or to learn more about this and other Founders’ Day activities, stop by the Algona Area Chamber of Commerce office at 123 E. State Street.
