Poetry Palooza! is scheduled for April 19 and 20, 2024. The two-day event – now an affiliated program of Iowa Poetry Association and supported by Humanities Iowa – will be held at Grandview University and is FREE and open to the public. Six renowned published poets from Iowa, Colorado, and Kansas will perform their celebrated works that focus on Poetry of Place (regional-topics) and Echoes of Earth (ecology-focused) themes. The featured poet lineup includes: • Deb Marquart, Iowa Poet Laureate, Iowa State University professor, author of seven books • Camille Dungy, African-American ecology poet and professor at Colorado State University • Traci Brimhall, Kansas Poet Laureate and creative writing professor at Kansas State University • Jennifer Knox, ISU teacher whose works are featured in Best American Poetry and The New York Times and American Poetry Review • Paul Brooke, Grand View University Endowed Chair of Creative Writing who teaches environmental literature, poetry, and diverse voices • Caleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey, nationally acclaimed, award-winning Iowa poet who performs spoken verse and conducts poetry workshops In addition, there will be opportunities for small-group, poet-led creative writing workshops and discussions of thematic topics, including the importance of amplifying poetry as a cultural antidote to challenging times.
