An Afrofuturist’s Guide to the Galaxy with Tiffany E. Barber

Join us for this exciting lecture featuring internationally recognized scholar, curator, and critic Tiffany E. Barber. She will discuss the origins and aesthetics of Afrofuturism in relation to artist Firelei Báez’s exhibition, on view at the Des Moines Art Center through September 21. The traveling exhibition, “Firelei Báez,” organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, is the first North American survey dedicated to the richly layered work of the artist. Over the past 20 years, Báez has made work that explores the multilayered legacy of colonial histories and the African diaspora in the Caribbean and beyond. Free; registration required.
