Historic Hills Scenic Byway
(formerly known as Woodlands Scenic Byway)
 Magnificent state forests welcome you to southeast Iowa. Back roads curve among vast hills, deep forests of sturdy hickory and oak, and mirrorlike farm ponds that reflect towering evergreens. Follow the westward trek of early Mormon pioneers. You may meet a horse-drawn buggy near Bloomfield, where Old Order Amish go about their traditional ways. Nearby Amish shops offer keepsake quilts and home-baked goods. Visit the historic Villages of Van Buren — steamboat ports of call on the Des Moines River.
Stay on Highways 2, J40 and 63 between Donnellson, Keosauqua, Bloomfield and Blakesburg.
