Iowa Scenic Byways

Delaware Crossing Scenic Byway

In the southern half of Delaware County, the landscape flows and slopes toward the Maquoketa River. This scenic byway threads its way past fields of corn, deep forested riverbanks, limestone outcroppings and boulders of glacial origin. Whether your interests lie in a college campus or a school of fish, Delaware Crossing satisfies. Civil War buffs delve into the past at Delaware County Historical Museum, located on the historic Lenox College campus in Hopkinton. Anglers catch where it all begins at Manchester State Trout Hatchery.

From Highway 20 in the town of Delaware, east of Manchester, take Highway 38 south through Delhi to Hopkinton. Take Highway D47 west to Highway X31, then north to Highway D42 and Highway X29. Drive through Turtle Creek Recreation Area and head north on X21. Follow the signs to D22 and back to Delaware.
