Join Flying Pig Fiddle & Banjo for a slow jam romp in the living tradition of southern Appalachian old-time music played by ear. Bring your fiddle, five-string banjo, guitar, mandolin, dancing shoes, or homemade/found rhythm instruments.
Instruction by Dave Losure and Mary Schaeffer-Losure will be given according to participant desires:
Learning tunes and playing nice together.
Building, finding and playing instruments of rhythm such as washtub bass, washboard, fiddlesticks, pitchfork, limberjack, mouthbow and more.
Hoedown style dancing and dance calling.
All ages are welcome. Acoustic stringed instrument players will need basic playing skills, ability to tune the instrument. Ability to read sheet music or tab are not necessary but curiosity, enthusiasm and inclination toward silliness and high spirits are!
Audio recording devices are permitted. Admission $7. 2 to 4 p.m.
Sponsored by the Des Moines Social Club and Flying Pig Fiddle & Banjo.
