Edward Gorey’s book The Gilded Bat is the inspiration for Iowa Dance Theatre’s world premiere ballet about the life of a professional ballerina. This quirky and dark story is translated into a humorous take on the dancer’s life. It follows the rise and fall of Maudie Splaytoe from her discovery at age 5 through her rise to the pinnacle of stardom and her final encounter with the bird that is her demise. Student dancers from 11 area dance studios are represented among the dancers in this Iowa Dance Theatre production choreographed by Albert Adams, Elizabeth Adams and Matthew Brekke.
