Cover of next Iowa Travel Guide to be determined by Facebook fans

November 4, 2013 (Des Moines, Iowa) — Fans of Iowa Tourism on Facebook will determine what Iowa destination or destinations will be featured on the cover of the next Iowa Travel Guide.

Through Friday, fans can cast their vote for their favorite of four cover options. The photos were chosen from more than 600 images submitted by Iowa travelers in October.

“These covers are great depictions of what travelers can experience during an Iowa vacation,” said Shawna Lode, manager of the Iowa Tourism Office. “We’ve selected images that showcase the diversity of Iowa tourism – from motorcycling in the Loess Hills to tubing on the Mississippi River.”

The four-color, 176-page guide is Iowa’s comprehensive trip-planning publication with listings from more than 700 attractions, 750 hotels, 200 bed and breakfasts and 350 campgrounds. The Iowa Tourism Office distributes more than 100,000 copies of the Iowa Travel Guide annually to travelers from every state and around the world. The new guide will be available in early 2014. Fans may vote once a day per Facebook profile. The winning cover will be announced November 12.

Tourism in Iowa generates more than $7.6 billion in expenditures, employs 64,400 people statewide and generates $328 million in state taxes.
