Sweet potato casserole? Mashed potatoes? What's your favorite holiday side dish? Even though many farmer's markets have closed for the season, it doesn't mean produce isn't still available.

In fact, the love of all things local has led to several markets offering winter shopping dates. The Des Moines Farmers' Market is hosting two winter markets. Visit the Mason City Farmer's Market on Fridays all winter long. The Freight House Farmer's Market in Davenport is open year-round.  I

Looking for all-natural, local-sourced markets? Stop by the NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids, RiverLoop Public Market in Waterloo or the Wheatsfield Cooperative in Ames.

If you can't find a winter market in your area, swing by the local grocery store. Many stores and gourmet stores partner with producers from the area to sell their seasonal produce. Ask the store manager which produce comes from your own backyard.
