Seed Savers Exchange

Seed Savers Exchange, or SSE, is a nonprofit organization located in Northeast Iowa that preserves heirloom plant varieties. Founded in 1975, SSE safeguards open-pollinated seed varieties for current and future generations to enjoy. We preserve more than 20,000 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and flowers in the seed bank at our Heritage Farm headquarters near Decorah. The Lillian Goldman Visitors Center is open March-October, but Heritage Farm (open year-round), also has display gardens and orchards to tour, miles of trails to hike and trout streams to fish.
